Title: CORRELATION OF OXIDATIVE STRESS WITH ABO BLOOD GROUPS IN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS

Abstract: Hypertension is a common health problem worldwide, especially because it has not clear symptoms affecting both developed and developing nations. It places a heavy burden on health care system, families and society as a whole and a major cause of mobility and mortality. Hypertension is defined as sustained elevation of systemic arterial blood pressure. More than 140/90 mmHg should be considered hypertensive and these patients are at increased risk for target organ damage and should get treatment. Hypertension is multifactorial and there are many risk factors for its development like genetic factors, socioeconomic disbalances, dyslipidemia, age, obesity, oxidative stress and blood groups. newlineOxidative stress is the pathogenic outcome of oxidant over production and reduced antioxidative capacity. Increase oxidative stress is a hallmark of many chronic diseases including hypertension. There are increasing evidences that human blood groups also represent a potent risk factor for hypertension and may influence plasma levels of lipids. An increased lipid levels with elevated serum tridyerides, total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol along with low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol is also an additional risk factor for heart disease.There are many reports that assessed the role of impaired lipid profile in the pathogenesis of hypertension and their relation with different blood groups. newlineDespite the enormous progress in the field of interaction of different blood groups and occurrence of a particular disease and the level of oxidative stress in hypertensive patients many avenues remains to be explored, as there are huge gaps in finding the relative levels of oxidative stress in hypertensives of different blood groups. newlineIn order to further elucidate the latter issues we have conducted a comprehensive study to disceren if any correlation exist between oxidative stress and ABO blood groups in hypertensive patients. newline
